Ne Yiyorsak Oyuz!

For English Please Click

Global tüketicilerin %80’i obezite, diyabet, yüksek kolesterol, hipertansiyon gibi sağlık durumlarını yemeklerle tedavi ettiğini görüyoruz. Başarılı olmak isteyen üretici ve perakendeciler, ürünlerinde inovasyon yaparak yiyecekleri “ilaç” gibi pazarlamanın yollarını aramalı.

Kilo verme üzerine üreticilerden taleplerimiz hiçbir zaman gerilemeyecek ancak bunun “diyet” etiketli ürünlerle yapılmayacağı konusunda fikirler yaygınlaşıyor. Üreticiler yeni ürün formatları ile meyve ve sebzeleri harmanlamanın, lif değerini artırmanın yollarını aramalılar. Zenginleştirilmiş besinler, Y Kuşağı’nın gönlünü alacak bir diğer değer önerisi.

Alternatif perakendeciler büyüyor. Y Kuşağı’nın büyük bir çoğunluğu sağlığa odaklanmış özel mağazalardan alışveriş yapmaya yöneliyor. Bunun dışındaki mağazalar bir rehber görevi görmeden, sağlıklı yaşamayı desteklemeden, sağlıklı yemek fikirleri vermeden ve yemek planlama yardımları yapmadan sürdürülebilir olmayacağa benziyor.

YİYECEK TRENDLERİNDE NELER ÖNÜMÜZE ÇIKACAK?

1. –DEN MUAF:
Tüketiciler yiyeceklerde arındırılmışlığı görmek istiyorlar. Çünkü tüketicilerin %50’ye yakın bir kısmı artık yiyeceklerin içindeki kimyasallar yüzünden tedirginlik yaşıyor; içerikteki her bir ürünün doğal olmasını istiyor. Ekmeklerimiz artık daha glütensiz, etlerimiz daha kimyasalsız… Örneğin, Subway ekmeklerinde artık azodicarbonamide maddesinin olmadığının, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut gibi markalar hiçbir renklendirici kullanılmadığının, McDonald’s ise tavuklarda antibiyotik kullanılmadığının altını çiziyor.
Satın alırken en çok dikkat ettiğimiz besin özellikleri sırasıyla;
Az kolestrollü/kolestrolsüz, az tuzlu/sodyumlu, az şekerli/şekersiz, az yağlı/yağsız, az kalorili/kalorisiz, mısır şurupsuz, az karbonhidratlı/karbonhidratsız, kafeinsiz ve glütensiz.

2. ÖZE DÖNÜŞ:
Çocukluğumuzdaki gibi tümüyle doğal ürünler istiyoruz. Bunu sırasıyla GDO’suz, renklendirici içermeyen, yapay tatlandırıcı içermeyen, sebze ve meyvelerden yapılmış besinler takip ediyor.

3. FAZLASI OLSUN:
İçeriğindekiler kısmında basitlik ve doğallık arayışımızın yanında fazlası olsun dediğimiz bazı içerik maddeleri de var. Sırasıyla lif oranı yüksek, protein açısından zengin, tam tahıllı, kalsiyum takviyeli, vitamin takviyeli, mineral takviyeli, doymamış yağ oranı yüksek besinleri tercih ediyoruz.

We Are What We Eat!

Even though we value our body wellness more every passing day, the number of overweight people keeps increasing with a direct proportion to that value.

One reason is that eating is now the topic that determines the conversation. As consumers, we have never come across such abundance of choice and “food” has never become such a popular cultural element. Because with the technological changes that occurred in the short term, eating, one of the most “visual” activities to be shared, is defined as one of the most important hobbies in life by 74% of Generation Y. We don’t hide anymore the fact that we eat “with our eyes” and that we express our personality through the food we eat.

In the most recent photos we share, health and genuineness are prominent. Because beauty standards are evolving now. We define ourselves, not with the “diet” we are on, but how strong we are, how much we exercise, and how much real food we eat. Weight loss diets are now considered boring and useless. Only 18% of Generation Y say they find the “concept of dieting” attractive. That is why brands are shifting their course towards realism/simplicity from “weight loss marketing”.

At this point, the keywords are “packaging labels”. Labels that make the consumer feel as if everything is under control, are read very thoroughly. For that reason, manufacturers and retailers must keep talking about nutritional values and content to the consumer in a plain language. In addition to these, consumers also want to be convinced with regard to environmental and social impact.

We attribute too much meaning to food with the idea of “We are what we eat”. We see that 80% of global consumers are treating health conditions such as obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, or hypertension with food. Manufacturers and retailers that would like to be successful, must look for ways to market food as “medicine” through innovations.

Our demand regarding weight loss from manufacturers will never diminish, however, opinion that this cannot be achieved through diet-labeled products, is spreading. Manufacturers must look for ways to immingle new product formats with fruits and vegetables, to increase fiber value. Enriched foods is another value proposition that will attract Generation Y.

Alternative retailers are growing. Majority of Generation Y gears towards shopping at specifically health-focused stores. Other stores just do not seem like they can be sustainable without providing guidance, supporting healthy living, offering ideas for healthy food, or helping on planning meals.

WHAT WILL WE BE FACED WITH REGARDING FOOD TRENDS?

1. FREE FROM:
Consumers would like to see the purification in food because close to 50% of consumers  are concerned about the chemicals in foods and want each ingredient in the content to be natural. Our bread is now more gluten-free, our meat is more chemical-free... For example Subway is underlining that they do not use azodicarbonamide in their breads anymore, brands like Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are talking about not using colorants anymore, and McDonald’s is emphasizing that no antibiotics were used in chicken.
The nutritional features that we pay attention to the most are listed here in order;
Low cholesterol/no cholesterol, less salty/with sodium, less sugar/no sugar, less fat/no fat, less calories/no calories, corn-syrup-free, less carbohydrates/no carbohydrates, caffeine-free, and gluten-free.

2. RETURN TO SELF:
We want all natural foods like in our childhood. This is followed by foods that are non-GMO, non-colored, free of artificial sweetener, and made of vegetables and fruits, in that order.

3. WE WANT MORE:
Besides our search for simplicity and naturality in content, there are ingredients that make us go, we want more. We prefer foods that are high in fiber, rich in protein, whole grain, calcium-added, vitamin-added, mineral-added, and high in non-saturated fat content, in that order.

4. GETTING “UBER”:
With the introduction of technology in our lives, food delivery is becoming “Amazon” and restaurants are becoming more and more “Uber”. In other words, restaurants have started to create their own special services within a limited menu and the cycle of a restaurant. Ubereats delivers its set daily menu to consumers in as short as 10 minutes with the help of third party drivers. Amazon is working on the delivery of its own private label foods.

5. UPRISE OF OCCASIONS:
Healthy foods are constantly growing in the snack category. However, it is still possible to find an opening in this category through occasions. Because Generation Y is tired of having to choose within the abundance of products. Therefore, brands try to facilitate the choosing by assigning especially the snack category to certain times of the day. For example, a biscuit to start the day, a biscuit for intense chocolate moments, night biscuits, etc.

Turizmde Değişen Trendler Ve Seyahat Pazarlaması

For English Please Click

Büyükşehirlerde, kenar mahallelerdeki yaşantıları görmek veya bölgelere has lezzetleri tatmak isteyen birçok insan şehrin varoşlarında günübirlik turlara, sanatsal aktivitelere, atölye çalışmalarına katılıyor.

The Changing Trends In Tourism And Travel Marketing

Vacation for modern man corresponds to many concepts, particularly peace, leisure, fun, adventure, discovery and socialization. Going on a holiday bestows upon us a temporary ‘new world’ where we enter while going on with our stagnant lives, and relax, refresh ourselves, and return from all healed. For that reason, for the soul, vacation is an essential need like food and water which helps us survive the mandatory routines, which ensures that we go on from where we have left and which transforms us.

These breaks we take in order to pause our routine lives and responsibilities, putting our needs in the center, seem to be a mere activity practiced only once or twice a year, despite all the positive meaning and emotions that are attributed to them. In parallel to the ever-changing life, our personal understanding of vacation, our expectations and more importantly the world in which we organize the vacation change as well. We thrive to keep up with the new trends in this activity we seldom plan.

As the place and meaning of vacation in our lives are changing, our understanding of it changes, too. The masses, who used to travel with the classic vacation in mind now also go on a trip for purposes of education, health, exploration, religion and philosophy. The effort to conform to trends adds curiosity, excitement and even a little uneasiness to the phenomenon of vacation at the center of which are peace, rest and fun. The objectives of holidaymakers are changing rapidly, hence so are the expectations from hotels, travel agencies, and tour operators.

All these factors not only positively contribute to the growth in the tourism sector, but also affect its dynamics. Holidaymakers now want to be actively involved in the planning phase of the vacation in which they invest their money and dreams. The boom in the online world directly affects the phases of vacation organization such as finding a middleman, deciding on a destination, and purchasing a holiday package. With the changing dynamics, while everyone actively involved in the tourism sector are finding themselves in a brand new system, the opportunities and risks that are brought along with the trends push everyone in the sector to create smarter strategies.

What Kind of an Evolution is Tourism Going Through?

One of the challenges in the changing sector that tourism professionals face, is without a doubt how the sector evolves into e-tourism. The ease the Internet provides users with in accessing information, has primarily changed the holidaymaker behavior. Anyone who is about to go on a trip, has now more resources other than travel agencies and tour operators to take expert opinions. Thanks to the Internet users who voluntarily share their travel experiences on travel publishing websites, social media channels, forums and blogs, travel literacy has increased and it has gotten easier for holidaymakers to decide on destinations by gathering information from a variety of resources.

Following online research, the holidaymaker not only decides on the destination but handles own reservations as well. With the ease of usage of travel search engines and detailed comparisons rendered by online booking websites, booking flights and deciding on accommodation are now under the holidaymakers’ control. Even the tour guides took a knock from online travel guides. E-tourism has now come to such a point where there are a number of mobile travel apps that enable holidaymakers to manage their travel program as intricately as does any package holiday program.

Then How Does the Tourism Consumer Evolve?

The consumer is the primary factor that changes the sector.

Generations X and Y, who are after genuine experience, are the masses that need to be focused on. These generations want to discover the unique beauty in the world that becomes more and more indifferentiable.

They love active but not passive vacations. Even if it is a recreational one…
These generations at the same time, if travelling to an underdeveloped region, would like their journey to contribute to the development of that region. They pick where to go for shopping accordingly and look for excursions and volunteer activities.

For that reason it is now a must to introduce more flexible and mixed services.

Travel agencies and tour operators must improve their brand perception by effectively merging their online and offline services used for a variety of purposes. That being said, they should gain expertise in distinctive products and concepts for the holidaymakers that travel for different motivations like adventure, leisure or sports.

They should adapt to the versatility of holidaymakers by coming up with mixed content in tourism areas that are on the rise. For instance, including volunteer activities in the programs for youngsters or organizing mixed holiday content with eco-tourism, spa and yoga tourism…

MAIN TRENDS THAT AFFECT TOURISM MARKETING

1. The Rise of the Sharing Economy: Sharing economy is an ecosystem that yields multiple usage instead of single usage by collective use or sharing of a product or service. This trend that got accelerated especially by the millennium generation not only allows the birth of many brands like Zipcar and Airbnb but also affects the conventional brands. There are sharing economy platforms in many areas in the tourism sector from transfer and accommodation to wining and dining. The holidaymakers going on vacation now share travel expenses through platforms like BlaBlaCar and HomeAway and believe they will have memorable experiences through platforms like EatWith and Sidetour. Facing the opportunities and threats brought about by this trend, brands started to join in competition by going into partnerships. For example Marriott Hotel, by renting its conference halls and workspaces through LiquidSpace, both increases its traffic and attracts customers.

2. Journey as an Intellectual Currency: Vacations are getting more and more international and democratic. That is the reason why journeys are perceived to be a social status indicator. Destination, itinerary, time spent there, original places discovered and personal experiences get more and more ‘unitized’. Going on journeys is becoming an intellectual currency. The brands should evaluate this new trend that brings Bitcoin to mind and look for ways to bring in gamification and unitization to travelling.

3. Going on Solo Vacations: Going on solo vacations is preferred in the way it allows one to escape routines and wander around without making plans and to spend a few days feeling free of responsibilities. It is becoming more popular as the level of trust in international settings and foreign cultures increases. Especially the ’68 generation who has now come of retirement age and women go for this trend. The ones who travel without a partner generally choose exotic vacation destinations and adventure routes. In order to keep up with this trend, brands should match their communication message and media based on segments. A&K pioneered in offering exclusive tours on a website designed for solo travelers. On the other hand, Crystal Cruises and Silversea are targeting masses that travel alone by revising their rates.

4. Travelling to Developing Countries: With reference to the trend of vacations being social status indicators, holidaymakers who want to avoid mass tourism have set their eyes beyond Europe. While Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam in Southeast Asia and Chile and Peru in South America are being favored, India has started to gain popularity in the Turkish market. And with the development of social responsibility consciousness, especially youngsters are departing for underdeveloped areas like African countries. Volunteering and social responsibility have led to a form of tourism and this stir reflects in the ghettos of some Turkish metropolises. Lots of people who want to see life in the ghettos and have a taste of specialties join daily excursions, art activities, and workshops.

5. Players that Change the Game: The trust in social media and the Internet also increased the credibility of websites on which consumers give ratings based on personal interest and experience and share their opinions. Online review websites such as TripAdvisor and Cruise Critic are becoming the primary platforms for holidaymakers’ research prior to vacation planning. These are mainly preferred for the guidance and comparison they provide  during selection phase, which confirms that they are becoming prominent in choice architecture. Travel agencies and hotels must observe the impact of online review websites on consumer behavior and increase their visibility and responsiveness on different resources. Most importantly, they should offer ease of choice by playing the expertise card against information pollution when necessary.

Pazarlamanın “Z” Hali

For English Please Click

The “Z” State of Marketing

Young generations named as X, Y, and Z based on their birth years, vastly differ in terms of their characteristic features. These differences are observed in many areas from education to professional life and from technology usage to consumption habits. The world of marketing, while watching Generation X (1965-1979) adapt to all the novelties and the transformation it has encountered, is just starting to digest the differences of Generation Y (1980-1995), characterised by passion for independence and defiance of rules. And now one of the most challenging tasks for marketers is to understand Generation Z (1995 and later), who was born into internet and technology, and to align their activities with this understanding.

Different from others, Generation Z is a digital generation from birth. Scoring the highest in technology and internet usage, the members of this generation spend their time online using phones, tablets, and computers. They can manage multiple screens simultaneously; they prefer to shop online instead of going to shopping centers. Moreover, they do not want to remain passive in digital environments; they would like to actively create content or participate in content creation.
Speed means everything to Generation Z. Obtaining first-hand information fast is a possibility they have had since day one. They use emoticons and emojis while communicating since these are faster than words. The fact that platforms such as Snapchat or Vine are becoming so widespread, is a sign of how important speed is to Generation Z and it also points out how much shorter their attention span is. The focusing duration of this generation is stated as being maximum eight seconds by some resources.

Generation Z believes in education and development through the internet. They are less interested in higher education diplomas compared to other generations. Additionally, this generation is interested in world matters, economy, and ecology. The majority of people from this generation turn to volunteer activities for they want to do good for the world.

Generation Z is not a good team mate; members of this generation like individuality. They dream of starting their own business when they graduate and becoming an entrepreneur rather than working at a company.

With these qualities, Generation Z will be one of the topics that challenges marketers the most in the coming days. Here are some of the steps that can be taken to win this generation that has no brand loyalty:

WHAT CAN BRANDS DO IN ORDER TO WIN GENERATION Z?

1. Make mobile a priority: Generation Z is the first “mobile” generation in the real sense. They use and trust mobile to search for and consume content, to shop, and to communicate. Brands must make mobile a priority within their expansion and marketing strategies in order to speak to Generation Z. In order to do this, they must formulate strategies that are integrated with social media and not just settle for web sites adapted to mobile.

2. Aim for simplicity: The most important differentiator for Generation Z is that they have grown up with first-hand access to everything everywhere. Even though they were born into a massive information pollution, they are aware of everything and can control information. That is why those brands, that have simplified all of their systems in an integrated way in order to provide them with the speed and simplicity they expect, will exist in the future. Systems that even call centers can manage over social media and that live on channels where they live, must be established.

3. Focus on reality: Members of Generation Z assigns their own stars on their own channels by themselves. Therefore, they immediately sense an insincere tweet or a fake viral. When creating content, brands should not be afraid of reality and “#NoFilter”. During marketing campaigns, brands must also focus on the true value of the brand. They must win Generation Z with better design, quality and production, creating value for them through these.

4. Be transparent: Generation Z is the generation of “sharing”. They share everything, everywhere, and among themselves. Therefore they expect brands to do the same. Not being able to appropriately manage a public message on social media or on a platform where information spreads fast via user comments, will cause you to lose Generation Z. While managing information, brands must be able to respond fast with a well-thought-out strategy.

5. Join the team: While caring about individuality, Generation Z also wants to feel group belongingness. Brands must strike this balance when talking to them and must enable them to get together with people like themselves.  While doing this, brands must really be young rather than telling about their world of youth and they must be on their team.

6. Adapt to their areas of interest: This generation has endless areas of interest, can blend all of these together, and has an equally busy schedule. Therefore, in order to attract attention, offer content that is truly creative, relevant, and fun rather than adopting exaggerated advertisement. Create campaigns which they can blend and spread according to their areas of interest and create their own impact zones. Have these campaigns live on the channels where they socialize.

Cannes Lions 2015’te Göze Çarpanlar

For English Please Click

Bu sene festivaldeki kampanyalardan Always Like A Girl  ve I Will What I Want  kadının toplum içindeki rolünü tüm vuruculuğu ile masaya yatırdı. Kadın hijyen ürünleri sunan P&G markası Always, #LikeAGirl kampanyasıyla “kız gibi” ifadesinin hakarete varan negatif algısını “yapabileceğinin en iyisini yapmak” olarak çerçeveledi ve PR alanında Grand Prix sahibi oldu.

Klişelere meydan okuyan bir diğer örnek ise AdCouncil’in Love Has No Labels  (Sevginin Etiketi Yok) kampanyası oldu. “Sevginin dini, dili, ırkı, yaşı, cinsiyeti yok,” diyen kampanya, bunu ‘’X-ray arkasında, her birimiz eşitiz’’ basitliğinde anlatarak Cyber, Direct, Outdoor ve Titanium and Integrated kategorilerinde toplam sekiz ödül aldı.

Kampanya Promo and Activation aslanı ile ödüllendirildi.

3. Zayıflığım Gücümdür:

En görkemli reklamların merakla beklendiği Super Bowl döneminde, Volvo toplamda 60 milyon dolar harcayan kategori rakiplerinin yanında reklam yapmadı. Tam tersine rakiplerinin reklamlarından çaldı. Bunu her bir diğer araba reklamı TV’de çıktığında, #Volvocontest hashtagi ile tweet atanların Volvo kazanma şansına sahip olduklarını söyleyerek yaptı. Dakikada 2000’den fazla atılan tweet, satışları %70 oranında artırdı; markanın kazandığı Direct Lions da cabası oldu.

4. Oyun Kurucu Teknoloji:

İspanya’da Ulusal Güvenlik Yasası’ndaki ceza kanununa ve terör karşıtı kanunlara yeni eklenen maddeleri çiğnemeden protesto edebilmek için tarihin ilk hologramlı eylemini yapan İspanyol vatandaşları, internet üzerinden kendi videolarını çekerek, ses kayıtları bırakarak veya kendi hologramlarını hazırlayarak tarihe başka bir boyut getiren bir eylem yarattılar. Holograms for Freedom (Özgürlük için Hologram) kampanyası Branded Content Entertainment kategorisinde altın ödülü aldı.

Cannes Lions 2015 Highlights

Turkey brought back home 17 Lions including one Grand Prix from this year’s Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, which thrived thanks to many new category additions.

The fact that no awards were given this year in the Data Creative Lions category, which aims for the creative use of data, might be a good indicator that next year there will be greater competition in this field. Again a first this year: Glass Lions was positioned as the award of social change.

This award aims to encourage a more positive and progressive communication and it is going to be a hardcore category aiming to overcome social gender discrimination and the prejudices attached to it.

Just like in the previous years, the fact that data is a channel to reach “emotional content” was emphasized often this year. Considering that 90% of the Data in the world was created in the past two years, it is evident that marketers will be beating their brains out on data-based insights. At this point the recently introduced IoT (Internet of Things) and the increasing importance of wearable technologies in communications were highlighted.

The discussion was that the platforms that are considered as media (Tinder, Snapchat...) have evolved into spaces and the content will be the new format.

CANNES IN 4 TRENDS AND 6 CASES

1. War on Clichés:

Advertising is not supposed to change people; it is supposed to change the way people see each other. The new award category Glass Lions is born out of this philosophy. Works in this field, were amongst “the most talked about” this year.

In a world where only 3% of the creatives but 85% of the purchasers are women, the role of the woman is still an open debate. This year among the campaigns at the festival Always Like A Girl  and I Will What I Want  opened the floor to discussion about the role of women in society in a striking way. A P&G brand that produces feminine hygiene products, Always, took the almost insulting “like a girl” expression, re-framed it as “doing the best you can do” in its #LikeAGirl campaign, and won the Grand Prix award in PR.

Another cliché-challenging example was AdCouncil’s Love Has No Labels  campaign. The campaign that said ”Love does not have a religion, a language, a race, an age or a gender” got a total of eight awards in the Cyber, Direct, Outdoor, Titanium and Integrated categories by communicating this in the simple form of “ We are all equals behind the X-ray”.

2. Even simpler:

Consumers do not want to express themselves anymore. That is why the definition of  “the experience of simplicity” is changing for brands. There were many ideas in Cannes this year, which drew their appeal from their simplicity. For example, Domino’s Pizza demonstrated that ordering pizza is as easy as tweeting a pizza emoji. This campaign brought Domino’s the Titanium Lions.
Another example of simplicty came from Smirnoff. By posting the instant picture of their refrigerators, consumers experienced that a Smirnoff bartender can come up with a cocktail recipe with any ingredient at hand. This campaign was awarded with a Promo and Activation Lion.

3. My weakness is my strength:

During the Super Bowl when the most magnificent ads are anticipated, Volvo did not advertise as opposed to its category competitors. who spent a total of 60 million dollars. On the contrary, it “stole” from its competitors’ ads. This was achieved by communicating that you could get a chance to win a Volvo by posting a tweet with a #Volvocontest hashtag every time there was an ad by another automobile on the screen. Over 2000 tweets per minute boosted the sales by more than 70%; the Direct Lions award they won came as the bonus.

4. Game Changing Technology:

In Spain, in order to protest the new article additions to the National Security Act and anti-terror laws without breaking the new articles, the citizens of Spain created the first ever-holographic protest in history by uploading their own videos, audio recordings and creating their own holograms. This marked a whole new dimension in the history of demonstration. The Holograms for Freedom campaign received the gold award in the Branded Content Entertainment category.

Sigortacılığın Yeni Yüzü

For English Please Click

4. Telematiğin önemli hale gelmesi
Buna göre kullanıma dayalı fiyatlama opsiyonu güçlenecek.

The New Face Of Insurance Business

Turkish folk have a tendency to consider different versions of insurance other than compulsory insurance only after they experience an incident...

The underlying reason for this is the assumption that insurance is a form of “tax” rather than a monthly bill.

Even though insurance is seen as essential and as and assurance, unfortunately there are a lot of negative biases against insurance companies.

This is because insurance companies are believed to never be transparent enough and to do whatever they can in order to avoid compensating the loss after the risk becomes actual. A consumer, who has been through a loss and has not been able to receive a payment in return – even though he thought his insurance covered all of it, he has discovered that it is indicated in the footnotes after the fact that the damages are indeed not compensated- painfully walks away from this notion.

The sure way to overcome these biases goes through increasing transparency even if it sounds very unorthodox and spartanly compared to the references of the category.

How does the perception differ when we look into insurance types?

Car insurance is the first one to come to mind and also the one that is considered to be the most important insurance type. The unreliability of the big city life makes car insurance perceived as a “compulsory” insurance. Moreover, since motor insurance is bought periodically it is observed that the consumer is sufficiently knowledgeable in terms of information.

Also, there is no sense of need for purchasing private health insurance and having SGK seems adequate. This makes having private insurance perceived as a luxury. In addition to that, insurance companies are criticized for their private health insurance practices.

Personal Retirement Insurance (BES) draws more attention from the women; women require a higher sense of assurance.

Retirement insurance is also used as an investment instrument. And lately it has become increasingly popular amongst youngsters.

Even though home insurance is seen as essential by most, the pre-requisite to have it is to own a house. Development of products catered for renters might be an opportunity to fill this gap.
When insurance products are reviewed, the fact that the products are being formulated according to the old system, stands out. In fact the needs, life style, product expectations of the consumer are well-shaped.

Therefore, with the concept of “Insurance 2.0”, simpler, one-step, and customizable products are going to be in demand.

For example the insurance companies that know their consumers and suggest products accordingly will be one step ahead. Brands, who know that isolation coverage for people that live in the city and for those that live on the coast will differ, and brands, who make transparent suggestions that are relevant to the individual as well as his/her family through consumer profiling, may break the biases.

Again another bias breaker, which is powered by ever-changing consumer needs and diversification, is to offer life cycle products. Besides the life cycles that come to one’s mind instantly like birth, childhood, adolescence, or stepping into young professionalism, more specific life cycle suggestions such as divorce, moving back to a rental, separation, moving in together, should be considered as well.

Another important point is the “umbrella policy”. This means packaging multiple products in a policy which will cover multiple family members with various needs. Different packages should be put together considering the different car insurance needs of the household head, his/her spouse’s, or his/her children’s.

What are the trends that shape Insurance Business?

1.   Transparency
Sense of transparency should be directly reflected both on to the brand and the products for the sake of turning consumers into loyal customers. The consumer must not feel deceived and must be able to see the flaws immediately.

2.    Increased use of the Internet in Insurance product purchases
In relation to this, the use of social media as a distribution channel will increase.

3. Consumers expectation of “experience on all channels”
Not having a web or mobile presence is not an option anymore. Yes, Turkey is still dominated by the brokerage system... But research points internet as the place where the reference for a product’s price and content is driven. On the internet, brands should come up with solutions regarding behavior. This step, if formulated well, will provide a strong CRM muscle to its brand too.

4. The rising importance of telematics
According to this usage-based pricing will become stronger.

Girişimcilik Nereye Doğru Evriliyor?

For English Please Click

‘’How to’’ videoları değer kazanacak.

IBM’in Teknoloji Trendleri Raporu’na göre küçük işletmelerin %75’i, yatırımlarını büyük veri analizine ayırmış durumdalar.

How Is Entrepreneurship Evolving?

When the Turkish Entrepreneurial indexes are examined, it is observed that the early term entrepreneurial activity is at 12% compared to 6% in 2008. This means 12 out of every 100 people have either been planning on becoming involved in early stage entrepreneurial activity or they already have during the last 12 months. When the category averages in GEM Turkey results are compared with other countries averages, the positive outlook in the perception of entrepreneurial opportunity is one of Turkey’s strengths, however, the entrepreneurial capacity still needs to be improved.

Here are some other entrepreneurial facts about Turkey:

In all the countries business failure rates are higher for the services industry than for the manufacturing industry. In addition, business failure rates increase during global recession periods and small businesses, which have one to four employees, have the highest business failure rates.

In Turkey, the percentage of women amongst entrepreneur employers is 1% and it is 13% amongst the self-employed.

The biggest players in the venture fund investors arena are China, Brazil, and Turkey.

Even though slowing down of global economical growth rates keep cutting down on the opportunities for new ventures, Turkey is still a medium scale market. It has a growing economy as well as a large and young population. The consumer demand is vigorous… This leads to important factors which encourage entrepreneurship. Russia’s trade relations and Asia’s rise in the West are all indicators of Turkey’s future importance…

So, what are the global category trends? Which sectors are becoming more important in terms of entrepreneurship?

It is expected that the most heavily invested categories will be virtual reality, business software design, hardware to interpret big data, digital health, online marketplaces, virtual currencies, fundings, and insurance.

With the technological advancements, the essential area will be “Security”. Mobile and Cloud are necessities for businesses that deal with Big Data, yet there are still concerns about data security. There is still room for growth for this. The need for new-generation user-friendly security solutions will grow.

Even though 3D Printing is still in its initial stage in Turkey, it will automatize several sectors. Small businesses now have the financial capacity to reach the 3D world. The manufacturing industry has to develop its own alternatives to compete with the automation that the 3D printers introduce into the game.

Visuality is still important. YouTube videos will have different usage areas under the monopoly of businesses. Platforms, such as Pinterest and Instagram, which make customer experience more fun, will become even more interactive. “How to” videos will become valuable.

According to IBM’s Technology Trends report, 75% of small businesses invest in big data analytics. The fact that big data can be analyzed by a random employee is an indicator that there will be user friendly advancements in this field.

Reklam Kokmayan Reklam

For English Please Click

1. The New York Times ve Orange is the New Black:
Netflix’in hapisteki kadınları konu alan dizisi Orange is The New Black için The New York Times’da bir yayına sponsor olması doğal reklamın en başarılı örneklerinden birisi.

2.  BuzzFeed ve Game of Thrones:

4. Forbes & Gap International

Advertising That Does Not Look Like Advertising

One of the recent advertising trends heard often is Native Advertising.  Native advertising is a kind of online advertising that takes after the function and the image of the platform where it is found. For that reason, it can qualify as a sort of chameleon advertising: As a brand, you keep changing your clothes but never compromise your naturalness. These ads do not smell like advertising. They do not look like advertising. They can masquerade in many different ways - as product placement, an advertorial, sponsored content, or a search engine results list.

Unlike traditional advertising, native ads do not directly show the logo, the jingle, the brand character, or whatever brand hook there is. On the contrary, the ad comes into being on the channel, where the consumer is and in line with his way of content consumption. Therefore, the native ads, that meet the consumer in his comfort zone and within his context of interest, do not appear to be paid for. They have higher credibility, however, to achieve this, they must be subtly formulated.

Even though content definitely sets the basis for native ads, one must go beyond this to conduct the research that will categorize the brand according to the social channel behavior and consumption habits of the segments. As the result of this research, one must identify on which channels and in which content type the brand will come to life.  One day the brand may generate gif content and the next day, it may create video content, or on some other day, it may find its role through an article published on a seriously informative platform.

Therefore, the rigid rules of advertising must be abrogated. Accordingly, branded content that is found within an article of a news site but that does not appear to be an ad, may go without using the logo. It may be placed somewhere else than above, below, right, or left of the page as banners would. It may appear as a new news title or it may come in the form of an unsponsored 120-character text content.

It all seems to be left to content, social media, the imagination of channel managers, as well as to being on top of the trends that change and are consumed so rapidly in the online world. At the end of the day, it is worth the complicated formulation for a minimalistic brand stand that does not look like advertising.

For brands, the formula to native advertising involves capturing relationships; creating content mechanisms that will successfully link trends with the brand; and maneuvering fast. So we compiled for you some of the successful world examples that demonstrate the rise of native advertising.

RECENT SUCCESSFUL EXAMPLES OF NATIVE ADVERTISING:

1. The New York Times and Orange is the New Black:
Successfully selected channels turn successfully selected topics into a win-win both for the publisher and the brand. One of the most successful examples of native advertising is Netflix’ sponsorship of a publication on The New York Times for its series featuring women in prison, Orange is The New Black. The most important contribution of native advertising to the Netflix brand is that it moves it to a better place in the consumer’s perception. Through its own publications and the newspapers it sponsors, Netflix transforms itself into a brand that cares about the world’s real issues and that tries to draw attention to them, rather than remaining as a platform that only transmits its own content.

2. BuzzFeed and Game of Thrones:
The ability to integrate will emerge as a key factor that leads native advertising to success. As a native advertising element, the partnership between BuzzFeed and Game of Thrones initiated a mini test application that exactly carries the interactive features, which the publisher has, and uses and sought the answer to “How would you die in Game of Thrones?”

3. Coca Cola and Spotify
It is important to appear transparently on the selected medium. The goal must be to enrich the consumer’s online experience, not interrupt it. Coca Cola’s native ad resulting from its partnership with Spotify, is a successful example where the brand has completely adapted to the medium’s nature and is presented in an unconventional way. Through Spotify, Coca Cola positions itself as a brand that is youth-focused, a trendsetter, and highly capable of adaptation. By effectively managing the usage of online services, it reinforces that it can still generate farseeing and innovative ideas.
An important benefit of being listed on Spotify’s personalized playlists, is that users will come back to that list again and again throughout the day. And they will be facing the Coca Cola image every time they open their lists.

4. Forbes and Gap International
Even if the brand remains on the back scene, authentic usage of a medium contributes to all parties participating in the ad. Native ads resulting from Forbes’ collaboration with various brands such as Gap International, enable sponsored news to be read as a separate tab of the site. For example, in a sponsored article, where the successful companies of the 21st century are featured, there is no mention of GAP’s founder or CEO (except the title and the link given). The focus of the news remains on the topic conveyed and does not let the reader feel as if the Forbes BrandVoice article is a deviation from journalism.

Yaşlanan Markayı Canlandırmak

For English Please Click

3. Yeniliklerle canlanma:
Mercedes, orta-yaşlı kategoriye hitap eden bir marka olma algısını Avrupa’da VW Golf’a karşı geliştirdiği A Class ile, Amerika’da ise 4x4 M-Class, CLK Roadster prototipi ile yıkmıştır. Canlılığın hakkı, çoğu zaman yeni ürünlerle verilir.

5. Fikir liderleri ile canlanma:
Yaş alan markalar, bazen kendi altın çağlarında kalarak dönemin fikir liderlerine, trend öncülerine kayıtsız kalıyorlar. Hâlbuki yaş almış markalar için yakınlık kurma ölçütü, markaya botoks etkisi yapacak yeni fikir liderlerinden kaynaklanacaktır.

Yaş almak ama yaşlanmamak için üç ana girişimi mutlaka uygulayın;

Revitalising Ageing Brand

Brands have life stages.

These life stages are development, launch, growth, maturity, and decadence.
Brands age just like people. Those, which wage war against decrepitude, are the ones that succeed in staying alive throughout the maturity phase. That’s why they are in active campaign against the decadence phase.

Ageing brands show the first signs of old age through distribution channels, company employees, users, and potential target audience.

Ageing has two meanings:

In the first one, the brand erodes systematically and gradually. These brands have no new features to offer to the market and they are only as big as their core target audience. The most significant signal of expiration is that the gap between spontaneous awareness and aided awareness get bigger and bigger. The brand is on that fine line between repetition and prosiness.

In its second sense, aging is about the image reflected by the consumer. It is a sign that the brand’s overall consumer audience is aging. The brand is running out of steam just like its users. For that reason, it is left way behind the times.

In order to bring the brand back to life, one must well analyze the difference between staying loyal to its roots and communicating that and reviving its past with new values. The loyalty that some brands have for their roots goes way beyond adapting to the spirit of the times. This leads to the erosion of the brand.

The revival of the brand means updating of its value offer while staying true to its identity. When modernising the brand, powerful research is needed in order to identify points like which values have disappeared in time or which features could pose as potential strengths in the growing market. In this phase, the brand house must be reorganized and the brand essence must be redefined.

Here are some strategies for reviving the brand:

1. Revival through new area of usage:
Some ageing brands must choose between giving up their main consumer audience and identifying a new target audience. Since brandy was starting to be perceived as heavier and older compared to spirits (Bacardi, Absolut, Seagram’s Gin, etc.) that were becoming more and more popular in the U.S.A., this category was no more the American after-dinner drink. The category then changed its direction towards African-Americans, who constituted 12% of the American population and 50% of brandy drinkers and entered occasions suitable to their life styles.

2. Revival through new distribution channels:
In channels, brands can be revived through pull marketing strategies instead of push by stepping down supermarket shelves. Even choosing to exist exclusively in certain restaurants and cafes could completely change the perceived value for the consumer.

3. Revival through novelties:
Mercedes demolished its perception as a brand for the middle-aged target audience, with A Class developed in response to VW Golf in Europe and with the 4x4 M-Class, CLK Roadster prototype in the U.S.A. New products often bring the best revival.

4. Revival through segmentation:
Burberry, aware of ageing, segmented its product line and overcame the problem by creating separate brands. While Burberry London brought a modern interpretation for classical customers, Burberry Prorsum offers designs that are of the latest fashion. Thomas Burberry, however, has shaped the perception of youth products. Cash inflow is provided by Burberry London and therefore, an opportunity area is created for risk-taking for the other two segments.

5. Revival through opinion leaders:
Aging brands sometimes live in their own golden ages and are indifferent to the opinion and trend leaders of the current times. As a matter of fact, the measure of establishing proximity for ageing brands, can be shaped through new opinion leaders who will have a botox effect on the brand.

Make sure to implement these three initiatives in order not to get old while aging:

Perform an aesthetic surgery on the brand: Keep the brand’s corporate identity and communications up to date. However, to do this, it does not suffice to use young people in communication. The brand must also be young spirited in terms of the products, services, and new features it offers.

Re-invent: Add new product features to the existing product prototype.

Develop a completely new product or service for the growing and developing market.

Deneyim Ekonomisi

For English Please Click

6. Markanın öz eleştirisi:
Markayı takip eden kitlenin artışı/azalışı, yanıt sayısı, yanıt zamanı, etkileşim, tıklanma oranı, markaya ilişkin zaman geçirme oranları, belirli zaman aralıklarıyla devamlı olarak ölçülmeli.

The Experience Economy

Most brands talk about happiness, promise happiness.

However, there exist cognitive traps that hinder consumers’ happiness.

When thinking about ourselves and others, we can speak of two selves: The experiencing self that predominates the present and the remembering self that keeps score of life.

Emotions determine memory. Therefore, when we remember something, we are not reliving the initial experience but actually re-experiencing the story that we have created within ourselves... That is why if our story ends badly, we attribute it to the whole experience we have been through. It is in deed an irrational situation...

Brands, that are aware of this irrationality of consumers, are advancing to a new economical value level: EXPERIENCE ECONOMY.

Experience economy is about how happy the experiencing self can be made and about the collection of good stories turning into customer loyalty.

There are some basic steps that need to be taken at introduction to experience economy.
First of all, consumers have reached the end of their patience. Brands have forgotten to really listen to the consumers and have continuously exposed them to messages like “Very Important, Last Minute Opportunity, Don’t Miss It”. Yet the consumers are now turning a deaf ear to these. They would like personalised and authentic messages. For this reason, brands must focus on the “individuated generalisation” strategy. Of course, it is not very easy to individuate the brand experience.

As Sam Walton has stated, “There is only one boss; it is the consumer. And a single consumer possesses the power to fire all the executives from their seats. The only thing he needs to do is spend his money on another brand.” That is why the period of, “Ring bell for service; Drop a note to the Suggestion Box; We will get back to you as soon as possible; Please call Customer Services,” is over. It is required to address the peerless consumers in a unique way and beyond that, even give them a spot within the brand’s main marketing scenario.

Experience economy requires brands that are able to unite stakeholders, consumers, potential customers, partners, and employees. Therefore, transparency is of critical importance.
Experience economy can be measured. Brands that say, “We need to be a more customer-focused brand,” must measure customer experience with the subtitles loyalty, reputation, and quality. In this measurement, loyalty is a more critical value to measure than satisfaction. Because all of the consumers can be satisfied with the brand. But not all of them are loyal. In the end, if bad experience outweighs loyalty, the customer can abandon the brand.

While planning strategy, brands also require the customer value pyramid that has a separate dynamic other than their brand houses. This is also needed to be able to better apply and understand experience economy... In the end, the requirements of conventional communication will be different from that of talking with the customer.

In the customer value pyramid:

• The lowest step is the “EXPERIENCE ELEMENT”. Customer services, personalized offers, life style activities, design based on interaction, sales personnel with theatrical training, and more... These are all experience elements.
• The step above aims at determining the “TONE OF VOICE” for a brand when speaking to its customer: Many different tones such as the formal you, the informal you, we, buddy, etc. can be used.
• “TARGET EMOTION” is identified in the next step. It is identified which primary and secondary emotions the brand will make its consumer feel. For example, one can target various primary emotions such as transparency, trust, control, honesty etc.
• After that comes the “PROMISE OFFERED TO THE CUSTOMER”. This is the promise of the customer services.
• The promise offered to the customer should not be disconnected from the “BRAND PROMISE” on the top step.

The way to increase supporters and decrease opponents is to create the customer value pyramid with durable steps and identifying this experience via spot-on research and the right metrics. While following all these steps, let us list some of the things that should not be done during the experience economy process:

• The customer experience offered must be applied with the principle of becoming a true brand and not in the name of marketing.
• Avoiding the questions that are asked, augments the crisis. A service network that transforms every question into a way of talking, must be formed.
• One must not repeat other brands and own an authentic tone of voice.
• Addressing the consumer through the conventional channel may require a more serious tone. However, in a world where customers are becoming more and more digitalized, one must not speak as in conventional media. The rules, tone and dynamics of digital are different.
• No matter what, speed is the most important factor. The success of customer experience is possible if the brand is constantly one step ahead of its community and faster than they are.

The Must-Haves For Experience Economy:

1. Social media as a base:
Beyond being a medium of communication, social media has become a consumer attention center. Response speed, corrected cases, personalized messages have become the metrics for attention focus.

2. Enabling co-production:
Ever since consumers have claimed power, they would like to make their power felt at every opportunity. The products and platforms that are shaped via consumer comments, must be expanded as much as possible.

3. Social media as a technology base:
Now is the time for innovations to take place on social media. Because smart phone addicts, adopters of the technology culture, and app-crazies have all united at this common point. Also called the Sneezers, the crowd that is the distributor of this perception, must be influenced where they are found: On social media.

4. Human focus, not customer focus:
Brands still use the term customer focus. In fact, perhaps the audience they are addressing, happens to be themselves. Therefore, the mechanicalness of customer focus needs to be framed with a positive feeling with the “human focus” and this must take root in the company’ culture.

5. Establishing customer value pyramids:
Marketers build brand houses for their brands. In addition to this, they need to be offering a standardised way of addressing and experience to their consumers. Therefore, customer value pyramids that have their own dynamics, must be created besides brand houses.

6. Self-criticism by the brand:
The increase/decrease in the brand’s follower audience, number of replies, response time, interaction, click-through rate, time spent in relation to the brand, must be measured periodically and continuously.
